India has a rich and vibrant film industry, known as Bollywood, which produces numerous movies every year. However, only a few Indian films have won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Foreign Language Film. Here are the Indian movies that have won the Oscar so far:
“Gandhi” (1982) – Directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Ben Kingsley in the title role, “Gandhi” won eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
“Slumdog Millionaire” (2008) – Directed by Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire” won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film tells the story of a young boy from the slums of Mumbai who competes on a television game show.
“The Brawler” (2019) – Directed by Anurag Kashyap, “The Brawler” (also known as “Gully Boy”) was India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
While these are the only Indian films that have won or been nominated for an Academy Award, India has a rich and diverse film industry that produces many critically acclaimed and commercially successful films every year.
