Hubli (Karnataka). Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) are in talks to jointly contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He also claimed that the Congress would definitely win 15 to 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state, irrespective of whether they contested together or not.

Karnataka has 28 Lok Sabha seats. There is speculation about JD(S) joining the NDA before the Lok Sabha elections. Responding to a question on the possibility of BJP and JD(S) coming together, Siddaramaiah said, “I don’t know much about this discussion. Even if they unite, we need not worry. We (Congress) will definitely win 15-20 seats (Lok Sabha) in Karnataka this time.

JD(S) leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had said on July 21 that his party has decided to work together with the BJP as the opposition in the interest of the state. In the assembly elections held in May, the Congress won 135 out of 224 seats, while the BJP got 66 and the JD(S) 19.

JD(S) and Congress fought the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together. Then BJP had won 25 out of 28 seats in Karnataka. The JD(S) and the Congress had won one seat each, while a BJP-backed independent also won. Deve Gowda, who contested from Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency, also lost.
