New Delhi. Protests by opposition party leaders continued on Tuesday over the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh from the entire monsoon session of Parliament. Leaders of various opposition parties were seen with suspended MP Sanjay Singh during the whole night protest in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament House. During this, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party MPs also carried placards saying ‘India for Manipur’.
Sanjay Singh said on Tuesday morning, “We have been sitting here since yesterday. Our only demand is that PM Modi should speak on the Manipur issue. We will continue to protest here and I still request PM Modi to come to Parliament and speak on Manipur.
Chairman took action on ruckus in Rajya Sabha
Earlier on Monday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar first took the name of Sanjay Singh for disrupting the proceedings of the house while starting the question hour amid opposition’s uproar over the Prime Minister’s statement on Manipur violence and demand for a detailed discussion on the issue.
In fact, on Monday, due to the uproar by the opposition parties, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha resumed at 12 o’clock after being adjourned, but the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders came near the Chairman’s seat regarding the demands of the opposition. On this, Chairman Dhankhar asked him to go and sit on his seat. When you members continued to protest, the Chairman took his name.
Soon after the Speaker named Sanjay Singh, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved a motion urging the Speaker to suspend the AAP member, saying such behavior was “completely against the ethics and rules of the House”. He said that Sanjay Singh should be suspended from the entire session of the House.
On this, the Chairman proposed for the approval of the House, saying that Sanjay Singh is being suspended for the rest of the monsoon session of the Parliament for ‘repeated violation of the instructions of the Chairman’.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh while speaking to ANI on Tuesday morning refrained from commenting on the Rajya Sabha Chairman. He said, ‘I will not comment on Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar for suspending me because he is not a political person, he is the Vice President. It is our responsibility to raise the issue of Manipur in Parliament.
