History of Gurkhas in the Indian Army
Talking to the media in New Delhi, Nepali Ambassador Sharma said that at present there is no ‘serious conversation’ on this issue between the governments of the two countries. Please tell that Nepali Gurkhas have been playing a very important role in the Indian Army. Nepali Gorkhas are recruited in the Indian Army in the year 1947 under the tripartite treaty between the two countries as well as Britain. Since then Gorkhas have been selected in the Indian Army every year and their journey was continuing till now. But, on 14 June 2022, the Government of India announced the Agneepath scheme. Under this, the youth of 17 to 21 years will be selected as Agniveer for only 4 years. Out of these youth, 25 percent will be regularized on the basis of performance.

why nepal is angry,
After Nepal did not agree, the army recruitment rally to be held there last year was also cancelled. Since then Indian Army has not organized any army recruitment rally in Nepal. Experts are telling that the Government of Nepal also has its own concerns. The Government of Nepal is worried that what will the youth do if they come back after four years in the Indian Army? With this highly modern weapons trained Nepalese can also go on the wrong path. In this regard, a solution has not yet been found between India and Nepal.

People of the Gorkha community live in the Himalayan hills, especially in Nepal and its surrounding areas. Former Chief of Staff of the Indian Army General Sam Manekshaw had said that if someone says that I am not afraid of death, he is either lying or is a Gurkha. From the very beginning, the Gorkha Regiment hoisted the flag of its bravery and also gave them victory in the important battle of the British. Some part of this regiment later also joined the British Army. Even now the Gorkha Regiment is an important part of the British Army. When India was getting independent in 1947, there was a tripartite agreement between India, Nepal and Britain, under which six Gorkha regiments were transferred to the Indian Army. Later a seventh regiment was formed. Then these seven Gorkha regiments have buried their flag in the Indian Army.
